On the occasion of the XIX. Gatroenterology seminar week the FALK Foundation awarded the “Wolfgang-Gerok-Preis” for the first time. This award honors the co-founder of the conference and former Chair of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University Medical Center Freiburg, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Gerok, who passed away in 2021 at the age of 94.
The first awardee is Stephan Urban (Project 16), whose work on the virology of hepatitis B and D has led to new therapeutic approaches and thus exemplifies the translational character that Professor Gerok has always promoted. In the future, the science prize will be awarded every two years.

Den zum ersten Mal verliehenen „Wolfgang-Gerok-Preis“ der Falk Foundation erhielt in diesem Jahr Prof.Dr. Stephan Urban (Projekt 16) für seine Arbeiten über die Virologie der Hepatitis B und D, die zu neuen Therapieansätzen geführt haben.
Mit dem Wissenschaftspreis werden außerordentliche Leistungen in Forschung und Lehre auf dem Gebiet der klinischen Hepatologie national gewürdigt.
Der Preis wird zukünftig alle 2 Jahre verliehen.
