In an interdisciplinary approach sparked by SFB1129, the groups of P. Chlanda (project 19) and U. Schwarz (project 4), supported by projects 8 (Fackler) and Z2 (Funaya/Schwab), discovered previously unknown mechanisms involved in virus cell entry. These findings could help to prevent infections with the influenza A and Ebola viruses. Results of these studies are described in two current publications.
